Album Mixing and Mastering
Richard’s involvement in the Stepping Stones album project for The Terraplanes Blues Band followed multitrack recording sessions at Foal Studio in Wales, where the band tracked 10 songs for their debut album.
On returning to Bristol, Nick from the band shared the multitrack audio files with Richard and auditioned guide mixes to decide how to proceed with mixing the album.
A new bass player joined the band, so the first task was to re-record all of the bass tracks! Before Fulcrum Studio was completed, overdubbed tracks were recorded at Pirate Studios in central Bristol.
Some electric guitar re-amping was also done, made possible with direct guitar tracks carefully recorded by Mike at Foal Studio (thank you Mike!) Percussion and snare drum overdubs were then added.
Editing of some performances was undertaken, before mixing & mastering at Fulcrum Studio.
The Terraplanes are very happy with the album, which has received excellent reviews and the band took home the ‘Emerging Blues Act Of The Year at the 2023 UK Blues Awards.
Well done to Nick, Eduardo and the band, who continue to go from strength to strength and are in demand, with a long list of UK gigs in 2024.

EP Production
Richard produced and recorded a three track EP for London based vocalist and songwriter Jesica Clinch.
After an initial Zoom video call to discuss a production plan for the EP, Jessica provided guide vocal recordings around which Richard sketched out instrument and arrangement ideas. Over several months, the songs were developed by sharing ‘work in progress’ files online, with positive feedback from Jessica. Richard programmed and recorded all of the instrumental tracks at Fulcrum Studio.
Following completion of the instrumentals, Jessica was ready to record her final vocal tracks. Unable to find a suitable studio in London, Jessica recorded her vocals in Bristol, before the EP was mixed and mastered at Fulcrum Studio.

Music Production
Following a positive studio experience booking, Richard was asked to book a studio session for Josh Blake, a talented young singer who had written his first song and asked for some help to put together some accompanying instrumentation and record Josh’s vocals to complete the track.

Album Production
Iain Murphy’s debut album ‘Limitless’ was produced by Richard at Fulcrum Studio.
Similar to Jessica Clinch’s EP, Richard worked from guide vocals supplied by Iain, constructing all of the instrumentation and recorded instrument tracks at Fulcrum Studio. Iain’s vocals recorded by Ian Lawson at Fieldgate Studio in Penarth, South Wales.
To complete the project, Richard got to work with vocal editing and tuning, before completing the mixes.
The album was mastered by Rik Dowding at Sonicmastering in Bristol.
